The Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC) in partnership with the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) celebrate the success of raising awareness for gynecologic cancers during Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month (GCAM).

During the month of September, FWC posted links to educational material, resources and graphics to encourage increased awareness of gyn cancers. New downloadable social media content helped these efforts and encouraged patients and advocates to discuss gyn cancer awareness, as well as inviting practitioners to have these conversations outside of the clinic. SGO members liked, retweeted and shared supporting scientific data and research directly to the community. At the close of GCAM, the Foundation officially launched the #MoveTheMessage social media campaign, featuring updated educational brochures.

On Sept. 26, the virtual Move4Her event raised funds and awareness during a fun energizing fitness hour. Over 880 participants registered from across 47 states and 4 countries.

Members of the cancer community, advocates, patients, health care professionals and sponsors all came together during the live stream and showed their support across social media.

Move4Her surpassed the benchmark $250,000 goal and $470,000. These funds directly support FWC in its mission, in continuing to increase gyn cancer awareness and creating resources available to patients, advocates and the cancer community at large.

This fundraising success was made possible by the incredible participation in this event by community teams, individual fundraisers and institutional teams comprised of SGO members. Some top institutional teams that FWC would like to highlight and thank are Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center with raising $21,066, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center with $5,655 and Washington University in Saint Louis with $5,350. FWC Chair, Ginger J. Gardner, MD, raised with $3,900 for Move4Her and the top individual participant was Gena Pettinato, who raised an amazing $8,600 (and counting).

FWC would like to thank the corporate sponsors for this successful event and their generous support. “The incredible support from our sponsors and patient community made this year’s event a tremendous success in a fun and meaningful way in order to focus on movement, wellness, and awareness for gyn cancers,” says Dr. Gardner.
