Your First Appointment

When you go to your first appointment with your gynecologic oncologist, you may want to bring a friend or relative for moral support, to help you remember all your questions, and to take notes. Bringing the following items and preparing in advance can help ensure your healthcare team has all the information they need for a comprehensive evaluation.

Medical Records
Copies of any pertinent medical records from your previous workup
Pathology reports, including recent biopsy or Pap smear results
Radiology reports, such as ultrasounds, CT scans, MRI reports, X-rays, and PET scans
Blood test results
Notes and records from any other doctors or healthcare providers you’ve seen related to your condition

Pathology Slides and Imaging
Pathology slides or tissue samples for a second opinion, if requested by your doctor.
CD copies of any outside imaging (e.g., radiology exams) you may have had.

Medication and Supplement List
A current list of all medications and supplements you are taking, including dosages.

Medical and Surgical History
An updated list of your past medical and surgical history.
Details of your gynecologic and obstetric history, if applicable.

Family Medical History
Information about your family’s medical history, including a list of any family members who have had cancer.

Current Doctor Information
A list of all doctors you are currently seeing for ongoing care.

Insurance Information
Your health insurance information, including any relevant identification or policy numbers.

Questions for Your Oncologist
A prepared list of questions you’d like to ask your gynecologic oncologist to help you understand your diagnosis, treatment options, and next steps.
