Foundation for Women’s Race Weekend Recap

The Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC) hosted our 2025 Race to End Women’s Cancer Weekend in Washington, D.C. From September 12–14, hundreds of patients, advocates, survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and supporters came together to advance our shared commitment to end women’s cancer.

Friday: Patient Advocacy Organization Summit

Race Weekend began with collaboration and connection. Friday marked a milestone—the 2025 Patient & Advocacy Organizations Summit! Leaders from Ovarian Cancer Project, Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, SHARE Cancer Support, The Powell-Drescher Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, Smith Center for Healing and the Arts, CRD Associates, Cervivor, Inc., CancerCare, FORCE: Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered, St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness, the D.C. Department of Healthcare Finance, Tina’s Wish, ECANA, Ovarcome, and The Laughlin Family Foundation came together for a powerful roundtable discussion on collaboration, alignment, and amplifying our collective voice to advance care for all impacted by gynecologic cancers.

We were also honored to welcome keynote speaker Annie Ellis, who delivered an inspiring talk on the importance of patient advocacy and the role of the patient voice.

It was a meaningful space for connection and strategy, filled with fresh ideas and shared commitment. Together, we identified new ways to collaborate, strengthen our collective voice, and continue advancing care and awareness. This is just the beginning—and we are energized by the potential it sparked.

Saturday: DC Patient & Advocate Education Forum (PAEF)

On Saturday, more than 100 participants gathered for a day of education, empowerment, and community. Expert-led sessions explored advances in gynecologic cancer research, clinical trials, managing treatment side effects, nutrition, sexual health and wellness, emotional wellbeing, and the evolving role of AI and technology in cancer care.

A highlight of the day was the Survivorship Panel, which brought forward personal stories of resilience and strength, reminding us why this work matters.

Sunday: Move4Her – Race to End Women’s Cancer

We closed the weekend with the 2025 Race to End Women’s Cancer, which brought together over 800 participants—both in Washington, D.C. and virtually. Survivors, patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, families, friends—and even pets—came together for a morning filled with movement, remembrance, and joy.

🏃 Participants ran, walked, and rolled through the 5K course.
🎶 A live DJ and Batala band kept the energy high.
🍦 Scoops2U provided free ice cream at the finish line.
🎁 Giveaways, photo booths, and community spirit fueled the celebration.

The Survivors Tent offered shade, snacks, and connection—along with our moving ribbon wall and Survivor & Caregiver Video Series, where every ribbon and story became a symbol of courage, remembrance, and hope.

We were honored by a proclamation from Mayor Muriel Bowser, officially recognizing September 13–14, 2025, as Race to End Women’s Cancer Weekend in Washington, D.C.
